Security For New Mobile Smart Phone

Getting a New Phone ?  Here’s why should change the default settings.

There is a wealth of choice when it comes to new phones in the market at different price points.  Many of them also come with a range of pre-installed apps like Google apps, WhatsApp, Facebook, and so
on.  But is it okay to start using the apps just like that ?

“Some Chinese brands nowadays offer phones with many features, but make them very affordable,
whereas other branded phones with the same features are priced higher.  Many of these brands have tie-ups with companies whose apps are already installed on the phone,” says tech expert
Soutrick Gupta.

How to Secure Your New Phone

  • For IOS Phones, you should set your privacy settings to the highest.  Also ensure that
‘request tracking’ is turned off, along with Analytics and Location Services.

  • For Google products, which include Android phones and web services such as Google Search, YouTube, and Google Maps that are linked to Google Accounts, the control panel for modifying data management is on https://myactivity.google.com/myactivity.

  • The most important Meta settings for Facebook can be accessed through the privacy checker tool
within the settings menu.  For “Your Facebook Ad Preferences”, turn on options for relationship status, employment, position and education.

  • Once you decide to log in to an app that is already pre-installed on the phone, check the individual settings, too, and change it as per your needs.  Here, too, the default settings are configured in a way that you are sharing your usages details, interests and information with the app company.
How to Secure Your New Phone

  • Stop using the default browser of your phone.  They not only track the information, but
will also show you a log of unwanted advertisements.

  • Sometimes, it happens that are particular pre-installed app is not downloaded from the play store, but is pushed by the manufacturer.  Those may be a trial version or a redundant version.
Keeping security in mind, it is always recommended that an app is uipdated or re-installed from the Google or IOS app store, and not from the Phone’s playsotre.

  • Uninstall every app on your phone that you don’t use.
